Expeditions of an Amateur Architect

These are the tales of my voyages inspired by my wanderlust & told through the eyes of a female architecture student.

Expensive Dining

We had to get up bright and early this morning. We had to get to the airport for our flight to Prague, Czech Republic!! We got breakfast at O’Brien’s again because it is right by the bus stop of the bus that took us to the airport. As we checked in, we were joking around with the man behind the desk. I think we made his day because he let us put our large backpacks in the priority luggage bins with no extra charge. He told us that it would be safer that way. You never know what will happen when you are friendly to people! (My mom has always taught me that)

My good friend and fraternity brother, Jenny, has been studying abroad in Prague this summer, and she graciously agreed to let Laura, Becca and I stay at her apartment. This way, we got to save some money but also have a friendly face to show us the city! When we arrived at the airport, Jenny was on a class field trip, so she had her friend meet us and give us directions on how to get to Jenny’s apartment. Our subway stops were Staromestska and Malostranska! Try pronouncing those the correct way!

As per Jenny’s friend’s suggestion, we ate dinner at an authentic Czech restaurant. It was really awkward when we walked in because we still had all of our backpacks and bags. Our waitress clearly didn’t like us at the start of the meal, but we think that she was a fan afterwards. I was feeling daring and ordered the restaurant special. I was rewarded for my bravery; the meal was to-die-for. It consisted of medallions of chicken in a damson sauce with almond shavings, cabbage and potato croquettes (which taste a little like tater-tots).

We had a lot of time to kill, and didn’t want to walk around the city aimlessly with our bags, so we got a bottle of wine, an ice cream dessert and played cards (Gin Rummy). We had a lot of fun just passing the time. Our check was 702… Czech Korunas. The large sum seems so intimidating            but it only cost about 15 dollars for our meals, the wine and the dessert! No complaints here!

Finally, after a few hours, we met up with Jenny who took us back to the apartment so we could put our stuff down. It was already late at that point so we all took showers and went out to explore the nightlife of Prague!
