Fresh Air
Today I spent some time enjoying the fresh air while the weather was at its best! And by best, I mean mostly cloudy. The weather in Scotland is anywhere between mostly cloudy and rain, and the temperature is a steady 60 degrees. If I were back home in Landenberg, I would wear a sweatshirt and jeans, but I think I’m getting used to the cold because as long as I’m moving it’s pretty warm.
I went for a run this morning and did some exploring of Jackie’s ‘backyard’ (all of the open green space)! The paths were pretty muddy; at first I was trying my best to avoid the mud, but about half an hour in I decided to embrace the mud and just clean my sneakers when I got back. One of my favorite parts of the run was discovering this huge open field of grass. For those of you who have read the book “Sarah, Plain and Tall,” the field reminded me of the drawing by Sarah of the field at the farm. The drawing is beautiful, but she isn’t happy with it because she claims it is missing something. Later in the book, she realizes that that the grass looks like waves in the wind and it had been missing the colors of the ocean. That is exactly how I felt about the field; the tall grass swaying in the wind was stunning. I stood at the edge of the field for at least ten minutes just admiring it. I plan to go back with a camera before I leave Falkirk to snap some photos, but I doubt it will do the sight justice. Another favorite moment of my run was walking right up next to a overflowing river (lots of mud was involved).
After my run and a shower, I walked downtown to do some exploring. I didn’t take any photos; I just got my footing of the area and people watched.
